My hang-up last time was that I was going to try to 100% the game, and on the level "Assassins" (4th level, I believe) I was missing 100 gold, and couldn't find the missing gold no matter how long I scoured the level. I know that there are some issues with what some levels say is achievable, so this time I'm not going to spend a whole week trying to find the remaining 100 gold of a level. When I'm tired of searching a level, I'll move onto the next. Simple as that. But I do want to collect as much treasure as possible.

Anyway, I've a simple job planned for this evening: break into a guarded mansion, steal another fat nobleman's trinket, and leave quietly. I'll let y'all know how it goes.

I just dislike that at some point in the game, you gain a sword, whose perk is that it can't be seen when it's been drawn, but you have no incentive to use said sword like ever because murdering is against the rules on expert.

Also, LOL at people just standing up in an almost empty bedroom and just humming to each other. Is this what people actually did before cell phones?

I think so. It appears I have "Thief Fix 1.27" activated, if that's a thing. It would have been something I downloaded years ago.

Damn. Looks like I'm going to be responsible for the deaths of multiple fathers of children when I complete this mission. Welp, such is the way of feudalism, I suppose.

I really hate that I have to slog through these next two levels that aren't really stealth levels at all in what I understood to be a stealth game.

Break from Cragscleft Prison and Down in the Bonehoard.

Although the 2nd half of Cragscleft is stealthy enough. As for Bonehoard, while it might be helpful to avoid being seen, it doesn't ever really matter if any of the enemies detect you. It doesn't make the mission any harder or really punish you in any way. These kinds of missions just weren't what I had in mind when I was reading about Thief being the apex of the stealth genre.

Anyway, Thief II is really the one to knock the stealth aspect out of the park. No missions in that one where it's "not really stealth, just lots of monsters".

I cant wait! I've been wanting to play it for over half a decade, but need to get the full experience of the first game first.

Tag. I'm interested to see the playthrough (hopefully with lots of screenshots), since I bought a bunch of the old Thief games on Steam years ago and never got around to playing 'em.

Those screenshots sure do look better on my PC than my phone. I have the brightness set to pretty dark for the immersive effect, but wow @ how dark they look on my phone.

Dang. I ended up missing 100 gold somewhere in Cragscleft.

Here's my fun little method I used to slip by the last 2 guards and then escaping the prison. I even turned around to taunt them lol.

They could have made Burricks a more formidable foe. I never feel intimidated or threatened by even a whole back of them. Lame, because they look kind of cool.

Y'know, Bonehoard isn't a bad level at all. So much variety and so many things to explore in this level. Still can't wait to be stealthy again on the next level, though.

Are the two levels you don't like the ones with all the zombies walking around? Those were my least favorite. Still not bad though.

Walking around in rich assholes' mansions and stealing their stuff is definitely the best part of this game though.

Yeah. Although in my previous post I kind of took it back about Bonehoard.

Gameplay? Probably not. I end up falling to my death because platforming in first person hadn't been very well developed (think about the platforming in the first Half-Life game. This is worse). It's not that bad, though, since most levels aren't extremely platform intensive. You fail the mission if you kill any human enemies on Expert, so a lot of your weapons feel pretty useless. But when you do end up in sword combat, we're talking Morrowind kind of bad. Sometimes I feel like the mechanics for what alerts enemies and gets me caught are inconsistent. After you get caught, I feel like fleeing from enemies takes way too long sometimes. One of the later levels, if you get caught, every enemy gets alerted to you until you finish the level. I didn't have the patience to ghost that level, so I ended up spending more than half of that mission sprinting away from enemies that were right behind my tail chasing me as I hunted for treasure.

But level design is top notch. The environments you hunt treasure in are so immersive, that I forget about how bad the graphics are. Ambient noises and cool dialogue that you overhear while sneaking around add the the immersive atmosphere.

The voice acting of the main character, Garrett is pretty good. He actually voice acted for a lot of characters in this game. His name is Stephen Russel, and he did a lot of characters in Skyrim, too. Belethor is one popular character he voices.

Agree. I always thought Bonehoard was cool in its design and scope, even if it did scare the piss out of me as a little Cyric Jr.
