Transfer your old team(s)? Or let them stay where they were born?

Me and my boyfriend were having a rather heated debate about the need, or not, to transfer Pokmon from older generations up to the current games, whatever those games are at any given time. I'm of the mind that it's cruel to take Pokmon away from their native region (game) just to use them in a new game when you already have an abundance of creatures to catch, breed, or otherwise obtain and that it wouldn't be fair to rip them away from their original Trainer when you already have a team to use. I mean, what will happen to your character in the old games you transfer from when their beloved 'mons are taken away? Especially Legendaries! That's the whole point of them being in their native games. What is Diamond without Dialga or SoulSilver without Lugia? They're supposed to be there. His opinion is that it means he likes, or even loves, the Pokmon enough to keep using them game after game after game and that it's great to have the option to bring them with him on future adventures to come. He also believes I'm in the minority when it comes to not transferring. But it's not like I'd never transfer or that I haven't. I just think you shouldn't transfer your main team, Legendaries, exclusives, Event Pokmon, and other special ones that you can't really replace by just catching. Like, if I wanted a Hoenn Zigzagoon in my Sword Version I'd be fine with catching one or breeding one and transferring it because it's common in Hoenn, but not found in Galar. But I'd NEVER transfer my Starter from any game or my main team or a Legendary because they're meant to stay where you caught them. Also, I'm viewing this example from a lens of all Pokmon being available to add to any game after the National Dex is obtained. I know Sword and Shield are an outlier in this, but traditionally it was possibly before this.

And where does it end? Why bother even getting a new game if you're not going to try out the new Pokmon and form a new team? You're just using the same team over and over and over again without trying out what the new region has to offer. And it's not even feasible considering your old team is over leveled right off the bat and/or the ability to transfer is locked off until a certain point in the game. Not to mention possible Type changes, moveset differences, stat and Ability rebalances, and loss of features through items, like the Griseous Orb being locked to Platinum or the Soul Dew being nerfed. You'd have to completely rework some winning strategies that just don't hold up like they used to. Finally, once you transfer, there's no going back. It's so permanent and sudden that I just can't get behind it.

So, what do you guys think? Keep your partners where they're meant to be? Or transfer them ever upward and continue the adventure?

I transfer everything, but I guess not this time since they couldn't be bothered adding everyone back in.

Ever since gen 6 there's been a massive delay between the release of the game and being able to transfer. In gen 4 and maybe gen 5 you couldn't do it until the post game. This argument doesn't hold.

They're meant to be with me, and that's where they'll go.

I think that was a tactical move since they're adding 200+ Pokmon in the expansions.

I phrased that poorly. What I meant was it just seems like you're getting through the game only to transfer your old team and rely on them again when you already have a perfectly good team you raised throughout the story. And by that time, what's the point of having your old team if the game is basically beaten?

I transfer every single one I can, for battle and for collecting.
I usually only like a few mons per gen enough to breed them to perfection. I don't use the exact same team all the time, never mind the entire gen, I continuously mix and match different members, new and old.
And because of how IVs, natures, egg moves etc work, the ingame team I used is useless later anyway, though they get to live on in my living pokedex for what its worth. That is one thing I must give gen 8 credit for though.
