I think people should be open to the idea of those who have power over them, and even if it sucks to hear criticism or be at a lower rung than others, it might be worth taking it in stride and using it as a motivator. But as an adult, I think it becomes pretty clear to most people who is and isn't deserving of respect. You're bound to get some jackasses with an inflated sense of self worth, and it's clear that even if they have a position of power above you, they don't deserve your respect.
