Does someone's age impact how much respect you do/don't give them?

I've met some grown ass adults that act worse than a toddler throwing a temper tantrum, so I've never been the biggest believer in respecting someone because of their age

A lot of people older than me who expect respect simply seem to have that expectation because they've lived longer, not demonstrated character becoming of someone who has earned it.

Is ignorance the same as stubbornness towards a changing world?

I voted Not Really because a part of me respects the fact that they at least survived life that long and people have to put up with their miserable ass in the same way that one day people will have to put up with my angry, miserable, life-hating, pathetic ass.

Just like with any other type of person, it depends on them. Plenty of older people are nice and deserve it and plenty of them are bitter and want to make everyone miserable like them and they deserve none.

I would say more polite than respectful, but the end result is probably pretty indistinguishable.

Really only kicks in for those 60+.

Mutual respect goes a long way. I think people should be open to the idea of those who have power over them, and even if it sucks to hear criticism or be at a lower rung than others, it might be worth taking it in stride and using it as a motivator.

But as an adult, I think it becomes pretty clear to most people who is and isn't deserving of respect. You're bound to get some jackasses with an inflated sense of self worth, and it's clear that even if they have a position of power above you, they don't deserve your respect. It's a balancing act of who deserves it, and it's usually the people who treat you with basic human respect who are worth respecting back.

I'll treat them like a person, as I would any other person. I will not treat them like an authority figure solely on the basis of their being older

What should be asked is do you respect your elders more than the younger.

And the answer is no. They get the same respect. And like anyone else, they can lose that respect.
