I realize for a variety of reasons that you may not actually be nominating your actual 10 favorite games of the decade - perhaps some are simply too obscure and would never make the bracket. Probably you only actually have 9 nominees right now thanks to the guru contest.

But let's for the sake of this topic assume you were going to nominate your actual top 10 games of the decade.

What are they and why?

I have only nominated 4 so far. I honestly can't think of more for now, most of my favorite games are pre-2010. I guess I have not been much of a gamer past decade.

Mass Effect 2
This is an easy one, my favorite of the past decade hands down is ME2. Playing it on Insanity difficulty was the most fun I have had. The game is just nearly perfect, the shooting mechanics and RPG elements works really well. I absolutely loved the characters and their stories, every one of them but especially Mordin, Jack and Tali. Some of the missions were absolutely a blast, like of course the suicide mission. I replayed the game many times, one of the few I have gotten platinum for.

Dark Souls
I don't consider myself a huge Souls fan but Dark Souls was such a fantastic game, I hadn't played Demons Souls so DS was a very fresh experience. Dying so often but slowly getting better at it was satisfying as heck. It took me a while to beat the game but it was a proud moment when I did. I couldn't get into DS2 or Bloodborne sadly.

Tales of Xillia
Most Tales fans would probably prefer Berseria over Xillia but I am a sucker for games with great characters and Xillia has that. The cast was excellent and the visuals were a nice departure from the cel-shading of Vesperia and Graces.

Xenoblade Chronicles
The JRPG of the decade. It's everything I love about JRPGs. Massive adventure with endless quests, great characters and an excellent story. It would have benefited greatly from some more polish and HD visuals but it's still amazing nonetheless.
