I actually felt like it recovered from 8 a lot better than I had expected (of course some things just couldn't have been handled well regardless) but then it fell on its face of its own accord. He proved with Knives Out he can write a good script, he just had really bad ideas for Star Wars. Each director just kept tossing out everything from the last one.
