they are talking about her career move i'm guessing. so referring to her as "jj's chick" when its about her career is incredibly insulting.

Uh, yeah he's right. It's an incredibly common misogynist trope to always refer to women as "[Husband's] girlfriend/fiance/wife/etc." as if they have no value outside of their man.
