Watch the drummer in this video. He's so fucking high that he barely knows where he is, and keeps breaking out into goofy grins. At the same time, he plays the song perfectly the whole time, maybe a bit heavy on the crashes but whatever, it's their style.

I'm just amazed he can even keep the beat with how baked he obviously is lol

Saw them once and it was sick but dont really need to ever see them again

also my boy is so committed to the vintage rocker gimmick that his tuner doesnt cut the fucking signal lmao

He's zoned out, but he is zoned out to the MUSIC, plus has muscle memory that comes with lots and lots of practice. I imagine this is a common experience among musicians.

Also they are a very good case against the viability of the Gibson SG in a live setting, especially in dropped tunings. Never, ever, ever are both guitars in tune with each other lmao

also also I really wish Juss live rig wasnt so strictly vintage/was more accommodating to the Dopethrone era stuff. Vintage fuzzes just dont grind like the shit they used on that record.

Glad to hear some decent fan input on this

I want an SG as my next guitar, they're so versatile. I'm sure I could rig up a whammy, I love how my (Squier) strat comes with that functionally built in minus the bar itself, but I want some fat fucking humbuckers goddammit

I love my SG dearly, it sounds incredible and has sentimental value to me well beyond any pros or cons as an instrument, but they do have fundamental flaws that can cause headaches. I use it live, but have to tune frequently even with locking tuners. Also records very well, a PAF is a versatile pick up. Dont much like it for writing though, but thats entirely subjective; I write unplugged, usually, and that is not something an SG shines at. Headstock will snap if you look at it wrong. Being very light makes it a dream to travel with though.

The Grateful Dead had two drummers.
Think about that for a bit.

I'm strictly a hobbyist, I don't play live. Thanks for the real input though. You make a convincing argument for me to pick one up. Do you know the differences between a real Gibson and an Epi version, other than the obvious quality disparity? I don't really have the spare scrip for a real one, aside from a lucky pawnshop find or something

For me back in the day I could focus really well on one thing stoned I just couldnt focus on multiple things (multi task) to save my life. Like even my friends would tell me I was much better at multiplayer video games after I had smoked and I guess ita because my focus was purely on it, outside stimuli had no effect on me

If your instrument doesnt involve breathing or lung control to play effectively, there arent that many rules if youre dedicated to practicing/have godly talent. Countless examples from the last few decades.

Well, correction, I do play live for friends sometimes, but that's acoustic. I don't really have a style, I like to play everything from Neil Young to B or C standard tuning doom metal and such, to standard punk melodies, to standard alt rock or dream pop kind of stuff. Basically, I try to play what I like to listen to.

The first songs I ever played were Neil Young songs on acoustic

Alcoholism is different from being so fucking high that you can't stop yourself from grinning like an idiot

You haven't seen Bonham go crazy-go-nuts on Moby Dick, apparently.

Or even Fool in the Rain.

Obviously blasted. Drummed two time signatures simultaneously.

They'd probably rather have this dude zoned out than their last long-term drummer, Shaun Rutter. Guy was a full-blown psycho and wasn't a safe dude to be around.

A lot of the nicer epis will have gibson pickups. Epiphone necks feel a bit different due to the extra thick poly finish vs the thin nitro on gibsons. There are smooth satin finishes offered in either, but generally I like a glossy neck and Epiphones feel wonky even to me. Fit and finish is fine, in either brand you are possibly gonna return a few to find a good one. Notably, the headstock angle isnt as severe as the Gibsons, meaning the necks dont snap as easily. On either, youll likely want to look into locking tuners. Used Gibsons can be found somewhat cheap, worth looking around for, whereas Epiphones will just be cheap regardless.

In either case you cant really go wrong imo, but the Gibson will feel a lot more like a solid hunk of wood in my experience.

Good to know, I always had the hunch that pawn shops were good for guitar hunting. They always have at least a full wall dedicated to guitars around here. Once I have the money I'll start shopping around, I deserve a treat at this point. Worst case I'll just pick up a good Epi at the store, it's not like I'll be going hard and need the upbranded version. I'll do research though to make sure I get the good pickups

You dont even have to do pawn shops, honestly. Its really not uncommon to find the Gibsons around $500 on a music shop wall.

shit now I want another sg
