Current Events > What are some great singleplayer military FPS games?

Looking for a campaign, not multiplayer. That's not to say the game can't have multiplayer as well.

Preferably a modern setting. I played CoD2 a couple years ago and thought the campaign was intense as hell. But that takes place in WW2 and I want something set in present day.

If you liked Call of Duty 2 but want something modern, then Call of Duty 4 seems like the obvious choice.

Medal of Honor series was meant to be good.
I know of them started with you being on one of the landing craft on D-Day

The first two Soldier of Fortune games are good. You can get them on GOG. They are absurdly gory but still entertaining.

Far Cry 2... kind of? You're a mercenary hunting an arms dealer in a war-torn African country. It's a game set in the modern day. Fun but annoying at times (like when your weapons wear down and start jamming all the time >_>).

Ghost Recon: Wildlands - Open world, ridiculously good story about tearing down a drug cartel / government in Bolivia. Third person but has first person aiming.

ArmA 2 and ArmA 3 - These are military sims. You have to contend with minimal HUD information, radio communication, some basic inventory management, limited ammunition, stuff like bullet drop, etc. Really challenging but fun, and more realistic than most singleplayer FPS games.

Battlefield: Bad Company 2 and Battlefield 3 both have fairly well written stories, though their single player campaigns are really short (less than 10 hours each). I don't recommend Battlefield 4, since the story was really stupid and unrealistic compared to Battlefield 3's.

Is it better than MW2? I just remember MW2 having a hella tight ending.

Call of Duty 4 imo was a bit overrated... the entire death toll of US service members since 2003 in Iraq is reached in the first level alone. Just a lot of annoying respawning NPCs everywhere. There's like one good level to it :\

Ya but just because I liked one CoD game doesn't mean I won't find games from other series just as good if not better.

I have the reflexes of a dead turtle I think. LOL. The only multiplayer FPS I can perform decently in is Siege, because it's more dependent on tactics and teamwork than reflexes.

Battlefield 1 is amazing
Cod ww2 the new one is good

Halo Master Chief Collection unless that's too future

Lol yeah the game was ridiculous. I only saw it once, but I shot a guy's stomach and his intestines came out on the floor.

Damn makes me want to buy it again.

Battlefield bad company

Not modern but Call of Duty Infinite Warfare had a damn good campaign IMO

Oh, also on GOG - SWAT 4. It's not a military game but it's fun as hell, especially on the harder difficulties when you have to pepper spray and taze everyone instead of just running around shooting people up. It's a classic tactical shooter like the old Rainbow Six games, where you control two teams of two people and can coordinate stuff like room breaches or set up traps to have a team smoke out some people and scare them to the team on the other side. And there are some standard scenarios ("people robbing a bank") to a couple of really screwed up ones.

Was curious about that. Got the Sniper Ghost Warrior "trilogy" (which just includes the first two games and an expansion pack) and they are fun when they work but boy are they glitchy and awkward.

Looks like I was in error in my OP, guys. The COD game I played a couple years ago was CoD1.

Having a pretty good time with CoD4:MW over here.

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 1, 2 & 3 all have excellent campaigns.
