Oh yea very much so for me as well. I worked in a movie theater when this came out and saw it cause it looked interesting. I came out thinking it was the best animated movie I had ever seen. That superman scene at the end still gets me. I bought my friends to see it as well. It was one of the first movies I showed my kids. They love it too. Waited ages for it to be released on blu ray. Honestly it should be recommended viewing in all elementary schools.

I saw for the first time only around a year ago.

So while I wouldn't say "iconic" as I missed the time for me to judge it as such, it's a very good movie.

I'm not opposed to it, I think it came out when I thought I was too old for animated films and while I don't really look at things that way anymore, just never got around to it.

It's a great movie but it underperformed commercially so IDK if it's very iconic.

What does it mean to be iconic "to me" as opposed to iconic in general? It's definitely very memorable.

My dad was a huge fan of both animated movies and old-school sci-fi/robots, so we saw The Iron Giant in theaters right away. It was an instant hit for all of us. I didn't know until years later that it had underperformed at the box office. I assumed it was a huge hit.

I'm dead serious

It was a British story. When they brought it to America they renamed it Iron Giant to avoid copyright disputes against Marvel's Iron Man.

The book was an anti-war metaphor. And a clever one.

The Iron Woman is an anti pollution, pro enviromentalism and femminism metaphor and an on the nose poor one.

The Hollywood movie kept the part about the unknown giant Robot befriending a boy and being considered a monster until he saves the Earth but kinda forgot everything else deep the book had going for it.

Didn't even include the dragon.
