I liked the prequels too, but they have their share of controversy. However, there were 3 years of a major war to get into. The Clone Wars animated series is lauded by many and considered to be a great addition to the canon.
But where does Disney leave us? The Mandolarian is cool, but most of what we see could easily have taken place in the ~25 years between episodes 3 and 6 with minor tweaking.

Having Luke fail as a Master and killing off his new generation of Jedi works really well for the character, but it leaves us in a bind. Essentially, the only stories left to tell will be those that don't add to the era. No new Jedi, no major war(s) -- just a New Republic who'll get blown up in TFA and a First Order gathering support in the shadows.

I'm sure they can come up with something interesting, but the new trilogy didn't set the universe up for success. I guess that's my biggest issue.

they did the opposite of what happens in the old Expanded Universe, where Luke's Jedi school thrives and tons of new Jedi and Sith populate the galaxy and the Skywalker family line still exists like a thousand years into the future.
