Wasn't as bad as I was expecting, the pacing was a bit too fast-paced though. It's like they decided to pull another Infinity War except they had to fit Endgame into the same movie.

The pacing at first was a little off-putting, but more than likely it was to get some scenes and details added to the movie that Abrams was expecting Johnson to take care of in TLJ.

I had low expectations going into it based on what people were saying, and I liked it more than I thought it would. There are obviously some questions and plot holes about things, but a lot of the plot holes people are complaining about are explained in the movie. Although a lot of the explanations are only like one or two sentences spoken very quickly and then moved on from.

I kind of wish Rey had just died at the the end and Ben had to live on knowing all the bad stuff he's done and him living off as a hermit somewhere.

They kind of did. Abrams gave Johnson his notes for what he wanted to carry forward into the third movie, and Johnson scrapped all of it. It probably would have been better to just rewrite the third movie, but I have no problem saying that the rough pacing is a direct result of having to fit in a bunch of stuff in a third movie that was probably meant to be scattered throughout the second one.

Yeah, I'm inclined to believe that Abrams might have actually intended for Palpatine to return, but it probably was going to be a sequel hook for TLJ. As it stands now it feels as if his return was supposed to be announced in the last movie with how this one starts, but that didn't happen.

Edit: Also, I know it was CGI, but seeing young Luke and Leia in that one flashback brought a tear to my eye.
