That's legitimately not her? I feel like she could be a stand-in if they wanted a scene where Leia steps into a space ship that goes boom. How did they write her character out, anyway? I haven't watched Star Wars since Rogue One.

Yeah it was shocking to see the picture. This woman looks older but only by a bit.

Id answer your question because I know it vaguely but I havent seen all the movies that have come out either so Ill let someone else do it in case I fuck it up.

They used left over footage of her from TFA in TRoS. This is very spoiler heavy going forward.

Luke died in TLJ after using the Force to project himself across the galaxy. Leia did a similar thing in TRoS where she reached out to Kylo Ren from her planet to another moon of Endor, as he was going to win against Rey. He heard her say Ben, which resulted in him dropping his lightsaber, and Rey grabbing it and stabbing him.

Leia died the second the lightsaber went through him and once Rey healed Kylo Ren, he had a vision from Han, where he finally turned back to the light.
