I FINALLY DID IT!!!!!

So, I recently got a job as a car sales(wo)man at a local dealership and after a few weeks of training, I finally was able to make my first sale today! Followed by my second sale!! It fills me with a certain sense of accomplishment.

...but at the same time is was a very stressful process. Although I've been doing my best with the various forms of training, it's no substitute for real practice in the field. I think some of the salesmen and managers have forgotten what it's like to be in my position. I'm still just starting out so I'm kinda bad at knowing the really intricate details of the trims and warranties and just the process in general. Hell, when I had to finish someone's trade in today I didn't even know a lot of the ending steps with making a tag for the key and pasting this "as is" form in the window. No one ever told me that so how the hell am I supposed to know?? I was supposed to learn this stuff while shadowing, but I was doing training videos and modules for most of my training time and when I did try to shadow, the other salesmen weren't doing the process "by the book" like I'm supposed to learn. And more often than not they wouldn't let me shadow because they didn't want to focus on me and instead focus solely on their customer. I can understand why, this being a commission job and all, but how am I supposed to learn if no one will teach me? Honestly, the best way to learn is to just do it for real and get real experience, but then I don't have the experience to make it work in the first place. It's a catch 22! Not to mention not all sales follow the same "script" so I can't exactly imitate the book if it's not applicable in all situations. Basically, it's a very complicated process that will take significant time and practice, but I feel suffocated by my lack of skill and under a lot of pressure to perform more than I'm currently capable of. I can only hope I can hold out long enough to really get good at this.

tl;dr Car sales are hard and I feel like I don't have the tools necessary to make it work, but I'm hoping enough practice will carry me through to where I need to be.

Nice! First sale feels amazing. Just keep at it. Sales isnt about how much you know but how well you fake it. A lot is just learning on the fly. Even when not shadowing, always try to listen to conversations from other sales people. Its a great way to pick up on things. Even after years being in sales, I will still try and listen to more experienced people on the phones.

IIRC You were the one with the shitty cell phone sales job prior to this, right?

Congrats on putting that noise behind you.

My 'R' key is on its last legs. This isn't a gimmick. Instead of CTRL + Ving the letter R every time, I am giving up on Rs, so forgive any words missing R.
