I think probably quite a bit of them are freethinkers that have decided to sit under the same umbrella to be more effective. This undermines their effectiveness as well, in ways that are different than the ways that it promotes their effectiveness. Overall, they have decided to go with what's popular so that they can be heard and represent the people to the best of their ability. Probably? That's the way I see it...there are lots of freethinkers who are merely operating in a very limited system and have a label on them. Don't get me wrong. There are a lot of idiots too. One of these parties will have to win out and change things from the inside out so that we can allow for things like ranked order voting, etc. to increase choice. However, culture always has its impact on politics too. So there are ways to influence that process that works from the inside out, by impacting the 'outside' portion that process via culture.
