Geralt doesn't play single game of Gwent and instead spends most of his time fighting monsters and brooding. WTF did these people not play the game?

Episode 1 was amazing. Episode 2 bored me to tears and made me mad about the portrayal of Geralt. Why is he made into a punk at the mercy of a couple random elves? We're supposed to think he's this badass monster slayer, yet he gets captured by some nobodies.

Is Gwent in the books?

Why would anyone care about Geralt's life before he became a travelling Gwent master tho? No one cares about what Yugi did before Duel Monsters.

Yugi played a sick monster dice game though

That's good because he was a sociopath and maybe a killer before the card game.

The early Shadow Games chapters of Yugioh were a lot better than when it became a card game.

OK that's fair but all I'm saying is that the Witcher is about a master Gwent player who has to work shitty boring jobs to support his passion, and a show that doesn't actually show him doing what he loves kinda sucks.

One of those nobodies was a literal legend and leader of elves.

Also, anyone can be taken by surprise and it served as a way to show his...benevolent inhumanity.

Those elves were kind of dicks tho, they didn't even offer to play a round of Gwent!

Bullshit, how is he a legend? Seriously, that scene goes against everything The Witcher is about. He's supposed to be cunning. HE sneaks up on people. Instead he just gets shot in the face with a rock or whatever, never saw him before that... then he lets the elf come up behind him. He should fucking SMELL those guys a mile away.

You know that trope of the hero being caught and being at his captor's mercy, that was done so poorly. As opposed to the trope of having to leave your loved one behind to die in episode 1 which actually brought me to tears, best use of that trope I've ever seen. Stunning difference in quality.

Episode 3 didn't do much for me either. I've also heard reviews that 7 and 8 are really underwhelming and Geralt doesn't have anything to do in them. Really, for being the main character, he sure isn't in it that much.

Nope.

Weirdly there is an actual card game that Geralt watches the dwarves play, but they chose not to use that one.
