Yeah download them to a USB stick or to your phone and then put them on your pc.

Have you tried directly connecting to the router/modem?

It should be the first thing you do tbh. Are you connecting with something built into the tower or using a 3rd party device?

Have moved tower til stuff's updated at least.
It's built into the tower.

Here's hoping once that's done and I bring it back down it just works.

I have a 100ft Ethernet cable to try directly connecting for such situations. It's a worthwhile investment.

I mean that's probably it. You can get a decent wifi adapter for like 40 or 50 bucks.

Ok, apparently we had a wireless dongle adapter thing from an earlier computer so it is online now, at least.

The thing that's not picking up connections well at all is the built in Intel Dual Band Wireless AC 3168.

So let's talk internet browser for a moment. I normally use Firefox with some add-ons (uBlock origin and noscript are the main ones I think).

Should I keep using the same or has one of the other browsers shot forward greatly?

Firefox and Chrome are both memory hogs, I use a combination of both.

Firefox handles having a billion tabs open better while Chrome handles certain individualized pages and tasks better.

I personally took a break from firefox for a while beause of the memory issue.

Gave it another shot a year or so ago, and I can confidently say they've resolved it, or they're both close enough that it feels more like personal preference

I had the same issue when I got my current pc. The wireless adapter was just trash. If you can make it look ok in your living space, a 100 ft ethernet cord can be a solution.
