Most mental illness are things that normal people worry about now and then, but such that it's interfering with your life and welfare. It's not washing your hands a lot, it's washing your hands so often that it actually creates serious problems. It's not feeling anxiety or depression, it's feeling them so heavily that it makes it impossible for you to go out and function.

People on both sides forget this. People who don't have mental illness don't remember or realize that they aren't feeling the same things, they're feeling it much worse. People with them tend to miss this fact as writing it off as "others deal with it, you can too" and never get help they could use.

Both would be better off understanding this. Would make everyone happier :D

People believe too much in the notion of free will.

I know rejecting it is a scary concept, but in the end you and your actions are slave to many variables. Your consciousness can modulate some aspects to different degree of intensity, but in the end alot of stuff you think you and other people have control of is not simply is.

These topics are very very sensitive and even though you have no malice what so ever, not carefully using the right words could cause you a lot of trouble.

Not knowing the right words is never cause to be quiet. If you think it's wrong, ask. If you get it wrong, apologize. But you're not gonna learn how to talk about it if you never try.

In my experience with these type of sensitive and touchy subjects, there's always someone looking to get offended but then there's always someone looking to offend as well. Best stay away from these things unless you know everyone in the room is rational.

But at the same time, fucking idiots in society flaunt mental illness like a fad which is utterly dangerous and shameful against actual people who are either very alone and silent about it.

What is to be done about the people who's friends and family recognizes that they need mental health care but they reject it?

Some people will live their entire lives causing misery for themselves and others yet reject any measures for self care.

It's simple: offer help and move on. Ultimately they have to pursue help. If they're a danger to themselves or others you can get the state involved, but really it's just about offering the hand and accepting that they have to take it in their own.

If they are call them out. Don't avoid the subject just because those people are putting an unhealthy spin on it, people need to hear the discussion.

All the more reason we need to throw away those notions of silence and talk about it, let people know others deal with the same. Let people know their individual expression of mental illness isn't that unusual.

It's true that there's always those looking for trouble, but direct sincerity is generally enough to clarify points and intentions, and it eggs out people looking for trouble. Direct honesty is a powerful filter.
