I see a lot of animations and TV clips of beating up bandits and such

...Does Geralt even do much slaying of supernatural thingies... Buffy style?

Geralt is the main character so yea he's one of the best.

Geralt is quite good at killing monsters and does plenty of it. But most of the conflict in the stories comes from him getting drawn into human (and intelligent non-humans like elves and dwarves) conflicts despite wanting to avoid that and limit himself to the much more ethically clear cut issue of monsters.

This, the strongest theme of the series both game, show or book is that Humans/Elves/Dwarves can be just as bad if not far worse than then "monsters" Geralt hunts.
