It's a pretty good puzzle game with a lot of optional lore and philosophy you can dig into. I avoided all of the optional stuff and just played the puzzles and had a good time.

I beat it earlier this year. It's a phenomenal puzzle game. You can easily tune out or even ignore some of the philosophical stuff if it isn't your cup of tea.

If you don't like the philosophical aspects, get the DLC that replaces 'God' with Duke Nukem.

it's all right, if a little rough

it's not on the same tier as portal or the witness, but it's not a large step below

You did indeed stab me in the back. However, you are only level one, whilst I am level 50. That means I should remain uninjured.

Yeah if you haven't played The Witness I'd recommend that over Talos. Also I don't know if you're looking for a first person puzzler or puzzles in general but Baba is You is also better than Talos.

Most of the Talos puzzles are about making a laser hit an eye through creative means and because it's a little finicky it feels like you're cheating puzzles sometimes or searching for the perfect pixel where the laser needs to be pointing. It's still a great game but maybe 1 step below those other puzzle games.

That was one my favorite aspects. "Am I getting away with it? Did I do it right? Should I try again and see if I did it wrong? What if it was meant to feel like I cheated? I finally did it! Oh my god, did I really do it?"

turns out there were at least two times where i genuinely did do something in an unintended way. or at least, i think i did. maybe multiple ways are intended. felt a bit cheat-y though.

Cuz its puzzles are like 10% as deep. And don't tell me the swamp is less frustrating than the vast majority of Baba levels. It is great though and should be played before Baba.

The nice thing about the witness is if you get tired of one section of the island, you can make progress elsewhere for a while and maybe pick up some new skills

Oh hey nice a topic for indie puzzle games, I love those

Talos was pretty good. I didn't really get as into the puzzles as other games but it's still worth a play for a puzzle game. I do think The Witness & Baba is You are better, particularly Baba is You. The Witness to me seems like a great puzzle game if you're still new to puzzle games, but even if you're more experienced it's still good.

If you're looking for more "puzzles in general" types of games, Snakebird is another good choice similar to Baba. Cute graphics but very tricky puzzles. Probably not as much content as Baba though, but still real good. I've heard Stephen's Sausage Roll is on a similar level to Snakebird but minus the cute graphics. Also I guess the Snakebird puzzles could be considered so hard that they made a sequel with easier puzzles called Snakebird Primer.

For more 3D exploration types of games, Fract OSC, Antichamber, and Quern are a few good ones. If you like the old myst games of course there's Obduction, their more recent-ish take on that style of game. For more games even more like the old Myst games, the Rhem series is a personal favorite of mine, though it uses the slideshow point-and-click style of control like those old games rather than full 3D movement. The Rhem games have extremely barebones story and not too lively environments, but the puzzles are top notch if you like puzzles so complex you'll probably need to take notes yourself, which I certainly do

Snakebird is somehow even more frustrating than SSR but they are both on a similar level. 5 levels in you just hit wall after wall. SSR has some absolutely genius levels though that feel nice to figure out. But each one takes like an hour.

Baba has much more gradually rewarding levels until the end where it's like SSR so it's best of both worlds.
