Even if you haven't seen Kingsglaive, Ardyn is explicitly the second-in-command of your primary enemy. I mean, if you have Noctis then you gotta have an antagonist and there is no better choice for an antagonist representing FFXV. Picking Aranea or Ravus would be like picking Reno over Sephiroth.
