Yes and we could do that by directly funding NASA.

Not by funding the fucking Muslim space invaders.

That's like saying we need more officers so let's hire a bunch of Age of Empires players since they know how to manage. They're completely different things.

NASA deals heavily in things like deep-space telescopes and the like. While this is 'useful' it's purely civilian in nature. In order to get NASA operating on a military level they'd have to undergo a massive reform so they could not only train people but develop literally everything about functioning in whole new environments on the fly.
