Mostly, since you spent a huge chunk of time bitching about whiny elitist shit in my DS2 playthrough topic.

That's funny. Mostly because it couldn't be less relevant to my suggestion in this thread. Secondly, I can't think of a single post you've ever made, nor that of everybody else on this board aside from a few people with odd, specific gimmicks. And thirdly, DS2 truly does go against the core, defining concepts Miyazaki put into the series' games he directed. Get over it.

Its fine. It just means youll have access to some areas sooner than you would have otherwise. If youre in an area that feels TOO challenging, there are probably other places you should explore first.

After youve beat the game once, the Master Key is the ONLY useful gift long term. So if you plan on playing NG+ with the character you made, you made the right choice, as I dont believe you get to re-select your gift.

In fact, the Master Key allows you access to many places early on without having to defeat bosses. And since you cant summon other players in areas where bosses have been defeated, you have selected the best item for getting the most out of co-op (I know you said you dont want to co-op on this playthrough, but you might on NG+ or a future character).

You know you can buy the Master Key for a measly 5000 souls, right?

Whatever you're doing TC, go quality and invest what you need to get a Claymore +15 to play the game with a very noob friendly weapon.

Sure, if you get invaded you're fucked, but against non-player controlled enemies it turns the game into a joke.

So its definitely beneficial to start the game with the MK then, if you want to avoid defeating bosses in certain areas.

A quick recap:
- NEVER level up Resistance.

- At Firelink, you want to head "up" not down, as I'm sure that you've figured out by this point.

- Two handing weapons grants you an additional 1.5x damage boost on all melee weapons.

- Two handing weapons also gives you a strength boost which would allow you to use some weapons past your current STR level.

- Never attack NPCs, unless they attack you first. BUT...

- If you accidently hit them and they aggro on you: DON'T KILL THEM. There are ways to make them friendly again later in the game.

- Pyromancy complements every build since it doesn't require any FAITH nor INT investment, but the casting speed increases with Dex (45 being the max casting speed).

- Going into 'human' form with your humanity sprites or by using the soft humanity you've accumulated over at the top left counter, will grant you access to summon players or NPCs with your current areas' enemies and bosses.

- You can boost the amount of estus flasks you have if you kindle bonfires with your soft-humanities.

It was my favorite build of all of dark souls. Also dont be afraid to summon NPCs. Iron Tarkus and Solaire are there to help you and it adds to the lore.

Also dont be afraid to die. Its part of the game and you'll learn from it. However, if youre rolling around carrying 100000 souls then be afraid to die

Yeah, they whole don't summon crowd, shouldn't count for NPCs, because the Solaire story arc is really good.

I noticed I had what seemed like two paths from the campsite - a staircase with zombies on it, and the dark passageway that dropped down to some chests and eventually those regenerating skellys. I took the dark passageway and died.

I don't think I had many souls so I may just leave my spirit there and forego them. I'm guessing the staircase upwards is where I wanna go next.

The exception is when there's some straight up annoying shit or build-nerfing I should be aware of. Nothing worse than dropping 20 hours into an RPG only to discover you made some irredeemable build mistakes.

Also, all stats have a "soft cap", where upgrading them past a certain level is basically a waste of souls due to severely diminishing returns. For instance, there are two soft caps for strength: 20 and 40. So if you invest in 20 strength in the early game, it's probably a good idea to start putting points into Vit and End and come back to strength later.

Aside from never going into Resistance, if you focus on melee the only real question is if you want to go Strength based, Dexterity based, or a mix of both. Try strength requirement, dexterity requirement, and mixed requirement weapons and decide your points from which you like more. This is probably all the knowledge you need to not screw yourself.

I've personally never done a magic based build, so I don't really know how those work.

^Every time i use a magic character, I rarely end up using the magic. Rolling/melee is just so intuitive in this game and seems to be what the game was designed around.

One of my fondest Dark Souls memories (and most agonizing at the time) was right after defeating the Taurus Demon for the first time. It had taken me a couple hours. I cant remember how, but I died before making it to a bonfire. Then instead of taking the safe route to recollect my souls, I decided to explore the new scenery on my way there, because surely they wouldnt put some bullshit right after a tough boss fight, right??? Moments later, the Bridge Wyvern breathed fire all the way from the other side of the fucking bridge and one-shotted me! Away went all of my Souls from my first tough boss, plus all the souls I had acquired from my many trips back to him. It was painful. I was furious. And I believe it was the moment I was officially inducted as a Dark Souls player.

You know how in real life when you make a bad mistake, and you wish you could go back in time and fix it? I believe that was the first time I got that sensation from a video game. Sometimes I STILL wish I could go back and do the correct thing on that save. But then I wouldnt have the amusing story to tell.

Sorcery builds are pretty OP even before you get Dark Bead. Once you do, game is pretty much done.

So I worked out I could get more esters by kindling. That seems mega useful. I went up the staircase. Lots of zombies here. Killed them all.

I walked up some stairs and some fucker let a flaming barrel loose down the staircase. Dick move.

And then, some other dick invaded my game and was all glowy and red and killed me dead. What a prick.

I also saw a giant dragon thing. Not looking forward to fighting that.

If youre not hollow then you can get invaded. Thats the Dark Souls PVP for ya

on one hand, it can be annoying to get invaded, but on the other, some areas have NPC Invaders, where if you beat them, you can get unique armors and/or weapons that idk if you can get otherwise

Unpopular opinion: the first Dark Souls game is hot trash. From improved enormously on the formula with 2 and 3, and Dark Souls 2 is actually my favorite of the series.

Before you kill the dragon, if you cut of His tail, you'll get a decent sword.
You can also do that by shooting the tail from a pathway under the bridge

Yeah once you get the parry timing down black knights are really easy. Alternatively they're pretty easy to backstab if your roll timing is good

I have no idea what classes are good but I chose warrior because that seemed appropriate for a first playthrough. Goddess's blessing.

Parry timing for all enemy attacks is when you see the opponent's weapon start moving toward you.

there are other factors, like soul level and weapon level. it also seems to prioritize people who are summoning in help, at least in the remaster.
