Age of Ultron is just plain a more fun movie, and better on rewatch than the first Avengers movie. It's the only time we ever really get to see the Avengers as friends instead of just allies.

No it's probably my least favorite mcu movie and it and Thor 2 are the only ones that feel worse each time I watch them.

I mean Avengers barely had a plot but Age of Ultron missed the mark by comparison. At least Avengers did what it set out to do, even if it wasn't deep or thoughtful.

So did Age of Ultron. It set out to make a fun movie that set up the next arc. It wasn't perfect by any means, but it was an incredible amount of fun, and is still a unique take for the MCU.

I don't know who I'm agreeing with, or if I'm agreeing, but I liked Age of Ultron.

I woulda liked Ultron to have more screentime, but that's probably not practicable.

It wasn't as bad as people seem to say.

My opinion varies from time to time, but generally yeah, Winter Soldier is fucking fantastic.

Yeah it wasnt as bad as people say it was, but it was handicapped by being an obvious midquel - it was forced to take the strings leftover from the previous marvel films and rearrange them to set up the next phase of films and that hurt its ability to craft a natural plot for itself.

Calling it Age of Ultron and then having Ultron job in every one on one battle is the problem with the movie. He poses zero threat whatsoever in his own movie. Much like Megatron in the first two Transformers movies, he's a bumbling joke of a villain.

I honestly don't mind that nearly so much, as long as that's not his last appearance. Ultron's whole thing is that he gets beaten, comes back stronger.

I mean he comes back in that Avengers video game they're releasing. Not sure if that counts.

Idk if it's better, but it's incredibly underrated. It sets up a bunch of stories that don't get fully resolved until Endgame, so in terms of telling a complete story and building on the MCU it does a great job.

The trailer for Age of Ultron promised us a darker movie than we actually got.

I'd rate the Avenger movies:

Infinity War > Endgame > Avengers > Age of Ultron

Doesn't mean that I find it a bad movie, just the least of the 4 main Avengers movies.

Yup. Plus, Civil War wouldn't have been nearly as powerful without AoU cementing that friendship.

As a movie it's better, but not as the overall package.

For me, the Avengers films only get better as they go. I did prefer Infinity War over Endgame, but that's mostly because of Endgame's weird misuse of Thanos after all the development they gave him in Infinity War.

For Avengers, it's definitely 3 > 4 > 2 > 1

But I like all four of them.

I won't say that Avengers 1 killed my interest in the MCU at that point, but...it didn't do it any favors. That movie just did not click with me at all apart from 'Puny God.' I had the benefit of watching Age of Ultron very shortly after Winter Soldier and GotG reignited my MCU interest with a passion, and I was a lot more forgiving of its flaws. So if I had to pick between Avengers 1 and AoU to rewatch, I'd easily pick the latter.
