...did people really miss it that much?

I mean, I had fun with it, but I always saw it as an off-brand call of duty. It was the first time Bungie thought "shit, we have competition" and started trying to keep up rather than doing their own thing. And this is coming from someone who doesn't like and has never played CoD.

Or does it just -feel- like people missed it because all the gaming channels are streaming it since it's the flavor of the week?

- Last Halo Bungie worked on before series went to shit (reach still had a lot of issues)
- loads of content, includes all dlc
- People have been waiting eons for MMC on PC
- New game and its halo

None of this is wrong... but still... H3 did it all better (imo) simply because halo 3 was halo at it's purest and not call of duty lite which, I feel, reach was.

AGAIN, I think reach was fun, and I played doubles for hours with a buddy, but it was still obvious it was just trying to compete with infinity ward.

Just saying... I would've expected more h3 gameplay making the rounds, but that's just my bias showing.

Reach is only a big deal because it's the first one. Halo 3 is probably going to be the most popular and hyped up game in the MCC for PC. Even CE and Halo 2 will likely garner more hype than Reach despite having PC releases in the past.

Anyway, Reach has almost nothing in common with Call of Duty. Absurd comparison.

Reach finally gave us fancy future tech, the ability to actually run, and a proper aesthetic instead of everything looking and sounding like a Power Rangers 6" action figure. Also, Halo 3 was really fucking slow if you liked big maps.

Halo Reach is what I always wanted Halo to be, though I wish sprint was an inherent ability.

Fortunately, I think for the most part Halo 3's slow feel was due to the default FOV, which will finally be adjustable when it comes to PC.

Only cause loadouts and sprint which is still not a good enough comparison

I could be wrong but only Reach is out on PC right now and they'll be slowly releasing the MCC as time goes by

Duh.

But that doesn't mean Bungie wasn't trying to reclaim some of the players it lost to Modern Warfare (the game that competed with H3) by incorporating elements similar to those seen in CoD games, namely, load outs.

i dont see anything weird about loadouts. I think it was just a natural sense of progression that CoD happened to do first.

Besides, the weapon balance in Halo is pretty fair, soits more about style thna anything.

Me either... at least not in other shooters... but I always thought the halo games could've carved out more success for themselves by sticking with the formula that got them up to Halo 3. I think different players enjoy different types of FPS multiplayer... some like load out style... some like arena style, some like both.

I just think Halo lost a big part of what made it 'Halo' when they started clearly imitating their competitors. And who knows, maybe it was the best move for them... maybe the series would've completely died had they not done that (or maybe the series lost it's identity when Bungie handed it over to other companies).

Loadouts were really only a means to let players pick what armor ability they want to use. It really has nothing in common with Call of Duty loadouts other than sharing the name. Halo 4 was where the loadout system started becoming similar to Call of Duty.

Again, I don't think loadouts and sprint are enough to say that Reach was imitating Call of Duty, so I think that's a rather strange criticism of the game.

I have no way of knowing, but I'd venture a guess and say load outs wouldn't have made their way into reach if not for the competition Modern Warfare provided.

Shoot, just in my house alone (at the time) all four of us were playing Halo 3. Halo 3 was huge... I could talk to any dude I'd just met and be like "hey do you play halo 3?" and they'd be like "hell yeah! I'm x rank in this playlist, etc". When modern warfare dropped, however, 2 of those room mates moved onto it and never looked back.

When I think about that transition across the gaming industry as a whole, you know Bungie took notice and said "we gotta do something".

And yeah, it might seem like a strange criticism, but opinions are like that. I just simply didn't like load outs. I still played the hell out of reach... but compared to Halo 3, it felt bland to me, especially the maps.

I mean there's no doubt that Reach's maps pale in comparison to Halo 3's. I'd say it's one of the few flaws with the game. Reach did have Forge World though, which was a very big deal.

I think Halo 3's success was mostly due to timing. It was advertised incredibly well of course. It was coming out at the peak of the franchise's popularity. And most importantly, it was a game that 100% lived up to the hype. No Halo game could ever match that, as shown by every game that came after.

I feel like most people just forgot Armor Lock exists. Give it time. Once they remember, Reach's hype will normalize. I am not super hype for Reach, but i am looking forward to some 60 FPS custom games soon!

Oh believe me, I remember Armor Lock

To me, Day 1 Armor Lock was the equivalent to Brawl's Tripping and floatiness. Shit was stupid.

THAT (along with maps, loadouts/certain armor abilities, game speed, etc) is what killed Halo. Bungie had just released their worst game vs CoD most popular.
