The comic is very good and the show is a sequel, so you're best off doing that anyway.

They're unrelated but now i'm starting to feel like Alan Moore where i will just hate everything that is in the Watchmen universe besides the original book

I try hard not to associate the new series with the graphic novel. It keeps me from sounding like a frustrated fan. This show is not bad, when viewed that way.

Edit: I should have said comics, as they came first. Wouldnt want a hardcore purist to Reeeee at me.

All the morally good characters survived, all the plot-lines came together at the end & left no major cliffhangers. It was ok.

it was never supposed to be more than this. if it does get another story, it could be at any point, and it'll almost certainly be another self-contained story.

This is a sequel to the novel but yes you should def read the novel, its a classic.

DC did actually publish a series thats a sequel a couple years ago though, but without Alan Moores involvement or permission:

No. He's out of the series until the penultimate episode, all people do is talk about him though

the way they ended with him, you'll probably wish he was out of the series though

Adrian comes back from Europa by spelling out save me daughter, Trieu is his daughter because her mom(the woman posing as Trieu's daughter right now) stole some semen samples(yes, this is a thing for some reason, the worlds smartest man keeps a whole bunch of semen samples around for reasons unknown) and inseminated herself with it. Blah blah blah she comes back and tells him about the plan to kill dr manhattan so she can get his powers blah blah blah they both end up at the final showdown

The racists have captured manhattan, they do the whole bad guy speech in front of silk spectre and reflective man(disguised as a racist), Angela comes and warns them that its a trap from lady trieu, they obviously ignore her, keene jr explodes, Trieu teleports everyone to the middle of town and proceeds to read off the speech from Hooded Justice, who is now a black man, and kills all the racists in one shot, including senator keene sr. Dr Manhattan then teleports Silk Spectre, Veidt, and looking glass to veidts lab blah blah blah they rain frozen squid down on tulsa after manhattan is "killed"

the squid fall kills trieu and destroys the machinery, leaving dr manhattans fate unknown, angela has a heart to heart with hooded justice, they all go home, angela eats an egg that does or does not have dr manhattans powers in it, Silk Spectre arrests Veidt for killing 3 million people, Angela tries to walk on water but very predictably it cuts out before showing what happens.

They use some particle cannon thingy, i forgot the name of it but it teleports him to a cage made of melted batteries, which for some reason is Dr Manhattans kryptonite. Yes Hooded Justice(revealed in episode 6) was retconned to be Angelas grandfather, WIll Reeves, the old man in the wheelchair/the boy from episode 1. I say "kill" because technically, Manhattan himself is nowhere, his energy at least. It wasn't terribly clear about that part but his energy was about to be transferred to Trieu, and before it happened the machine broke. So that energy is unaccounted for.

As for the capturing, the racists raid Angelas house after she takes the stone out of her husbands forehead, triggering all his memories as Manhattan, he makes a bunch of eggs, walks on water, tells her this is the end as she goes outside and starts shooting all of the racists to try to save his life. She gets pinned down and Manhattan comes outside and blows the heads off of the rest of them, except for one who uses aforementioned particle cannon.

Hmm that seems to underestimate Manhattans power level. Anyway, it sounds like he is in the same state he was in during the process in which he originally became Dr. Manhattan.

Yeah you should watch it for yourself and form your own opinion, maybe you'll like it. But the ending they did basically undermined the book. I respect the journey but not the destination and if there was a season 2 i might skip on it or wait until it's all done before watching it

I really enjoyed the watchmen comics, I read them when I was a young teen before anyone I knew had heard of them (my dad's coworker was a nerd and let me borrow them)

the ending was definitely a big part of the appeal to me

the show is good as a standalone project imo but if you care about the watchmen and expect it to be like that it's kind of a let down, especially once dr manhattan is in the picture

I thought it was great and super satisfying

i liked how they slowly built in the superhero aspects into the story, while still keeping the earlier themes

My take is He didn't want her getting Dr. Manhattan's powers. In a way it's a kind of character development for him to understand that maybe it takes more than just one person's actions to save the world. I believe he didn't have much of a plan of his own because he'd been awake on Earth for maybe an hour and was at Trieu's mercy. When Jon teleported them, he was back in his element and the wheels started spinning.

EDIT: Or hey if you want to go another way with it, perhaps he was pissed at the idea that she was doing just about all of this to prove she was better than him and he was like "bitch, nobody's better than me".

The movie ending is far worse.

The interplay with Veidt and Manhattan's talk is dropped which further ruins Veidt's character, all of the foreshadowing and planning Veidt did is kept but meaningless because they changed the ending, instead of uniting humanity by preparing for an unknown enemy that can die, they are instead united by an American Agent blowing up cities like Moscow who they have no hope to defeat which doesn't make sense.

By forcing Manhattan into it is also takes away his choice of the matter (which is, I assume, why they cut the dialogue with him and Ozymandias)

The show actually kinda talks about how ridiculous it was. The whole point was for everyone to be absolutely confused and terrified at the crazy random nature of it.
