I've found that telling people or even myself that I will releases the same dopamine effect as doing it, just without the hard work. You can quickly hypnotize yourself into complacency.

"Tomorrow is a new day, I'm going to get up early and exercise and get shit done."

Wake up feeling clear headed, or mentally ready for it. Immediately cave in to preset patterns. Eat like crap, or play a game, or smoke, or whatever vice it is. Patterns of self destruction. Now, this only applies to very depressed or anxious people, not everybody. Most people have the wherewithall to just get up and do what they said they would and not have a second thought. But for very damaged people, myself included in my past, I find that charting out goals or telling people about them is cathartic in and of itself.

Ah, I get it now. But there comes a point where you stop believing it even a lil bit and the power of that fades. I can't remember how many times I said I was gonna take a hiatus from games so that I don't abuse sleep and other stuff. Only to last like 3 days, find a game and do an all nighter while indulging in vices.

I'm not actively sabotaging myself or falling back on drugs and alcohol, but I have been spinning my wheels for a long time and sort of depressed about things. The season doesn't help at all.
