Ketchup survived armageddon?

Or do they make their own?

If they make their own then they grow and process tomatos and sugar.... So why the cannibalism they are doing all that?

I feel like people gloss over that. The Brotherhood of Steel and Enclave and Institute all don't have ketchup.

Ketchup really doesn't need tomatoes for how much shit is put in there. Probably replaced the tomato pure with rust and nobody noticed.

Well they farm Brahmin and mutated fruit/veg like corn and mutfruit.

Also trade. Lots of trading caravans.

But the Andale families don't seem to trade or farm. Instead they eat people but yet have their own ketchup?

At least until you install the DLC and the Albino Radscorpions and Super Mutant Warlords slaughter the caravans. Then you go and get a mod to make the caravans Essential.

Keep in mind that stuff that the player does/sees might not match what happens canonically.

I mean the Hero of Kvatch in Oblivion probably didn't run in circles in his underpants for 4 hours, make 40 potions and then go on a guard killing spree.

I think caravans still flow within the plot even if the ones we see get killed by Warlords.

Given how much they seem to idealize pre-war society, it'd fit that they have a "sauce" that they just call ketchup.

Thinking about it, Fallout 3 had tons of Blood Packs that you could pick up and eat, ketchup could simply be a blood pack.

My take - and bear with me here, it's a radical notion - is that Bethesda's programmers-turned-writers didn't put a whole lot of logistical thought into the whole '200 years after nuclear armageddon' thing.

Theres been loads of progress, we see that in Fallout 1, 2 and 3.

there are settlements with established caravan routes, farms, mines that gather metals, drug and gun runners

Places like Vault City that used the GECK to create a vibrant and sustainable community

A bottle cap currency backed by water making it more stable than Bitcoin or the dollar

Bethesda... well obsidian Put a lot of thought and explanation into how societies were rebuilt

The reason why it "looks" like there's minimal progress is because everything is irradiated and nearly everyone is dead

So it makes sense that there are ruins and desert everywhere

Bethesda completely missed the mark on how it's a post post apocalyptic setting

I'd say it's more that being bothered by this is extremely nitpicky.

You routinely pull food out of 200-year-old rusted refrigerators laying in the ruins of dilapidated buildings, and that's fine to eat, so I'm sure the ketchup is fine

When it comes to inconsistencies and poor planning in Fallout 3's writing, wondering whether or not Andale should have access to ketchup is a spit in the ocean.
