And all humans hoard spaceships and leave earth. Everyone is crying because how selfish we were and how we ignored global warming. Meanwhile in space, a man walks into the space-ship bar and says something so bad that everyone in the room starts crying and he gets kicked off the ship. He asks:
What time is it?

If we aren't on Earth we no longer have a reason to measure time the way we do.

That's a stupid joke. Time is time even without the motion of a planet to design an entire system around.

Is it though? Like...who gets to decide what time it is when they get to whatever new planet?

Chad might just blurt out "It's 3:22 AM!" and do think everyone would just accept it?

Our entire system of time does not vanish even if our planet were to. The only things that would disappear along with our planet is time zones, Daylight Savings Time, seasons, and leap years; not seconds, minutes, hours, days, weeks, months, and years.

Those would vanish too, because humans also created those things, and how long they lasted. A minute wasn't a minute until someone decided that it took 60 seconds to reach a minute.

They wouldn't go anywhere because it's a ship full of humans who all have a human concept of time.

Holy shit, this topic is dumb.

Look! Without a sun or a planet to rotate, there is no unit of time! The time system we created is to track the sun! And the rotation around the sun! No sun, no time!

Why would they stop using the SI units for time?
Everybody are used to the 24h standard, why would they change it the moment we left earth?
Every computer on the ship should be configurated for it, so why re-invent the wheel again?
I can see shifts be optimized during the trip on the ship, but it will most likely be compatible with the standard 24h time so there is no reason to really change it.
Not until they find a new liveable planet with a different rotation of its axis.

Do you know the definition of a second is?
"The second, symbol s, is the SI unit of time. It is defined by taking the fixed numerical value of the caesium frequency Cs, the unperturbed ground-state hyperfine transition frequency of the caesium 133 atom, to be 9192631770 when expressed in the unit Hz, which is equal to s1."

They changed it to the caesium 133 atom.

That is a relatively new way to measure timeunits, so people holding fast to the old ways, like you, are the boomers in this case.
