They seem really determined to portray Bond as a sad, depressed character, and being a spy sucking.

And yes, being a spy sucks in real life, but realism was never the point of Bond movies.

I think it has to do with them trying to limit his license to kill.

My most hated thing about the new bond movies is that he drinks Heineken instead of a vodka martini, shaken, not stirred.

He's a raging alcoholic who kills people for a living and never has any meaningful interpersonal relationships, and all his romantic partners end up dead directly or indirectly because of him.

I'd be fucking depressed too.

They apparently had to do a lot of "convincing ($$$)" to get Daniel Craig back even this time, although I'd like for them to have moved on from this sad version of Bond already.

Every Bond has a different style and take

Craigs just happens to have more emotional depth, something the other bonds never had (and something Ive always hated with the other Bonds)

ill take Casino Royale and Skyfall over any other combination of movies in the series tbh

That's the thing though.

The Daniel Craig James Bond movies seem to be made by people who don't like James Bond movies and don't want to make James Bond movies.

So it's not surprising that someone like you who didn't like the older James Bond movies liked Casino Royale and Skyfall, the latter of which had the overarching theme that the concept of James Bond itself was outdated and stupid.

It's part of the 2000s trend of making things dark, gritty, and depressed. Companies that make things this way only do it because they believe it will make them money. The only way to stop this trend is to stop paying for it at theaters or via merchandise.

I'm sorry, but I want my James Bond to have far more personality than an angry stick in the mud; that's why I also didn't like Timothy Dalton's Bond (especially in his first one).
