Lets set some rules first:
influence that Sw had on movies does not exist in this timeline, so any cliches or pop culture that stemmed for the OT do not exist. The concept of the light saber would still be pretty popular. The twist with Vader, and the redemption at the end would make it a good set of movies even today imo.

New Hope would receive the treatment Avatar did when it came out (It's just x in space)
Empire Strikes Back would probably be received as it was back then. It was somewhat polarizing at the time. Return of the Jedi would be panned in this day and age of hyperfocused "video essay" critiques. honestly i dunno because it's just hard to imagine given how much influence star wars has had over the last 40 years

I think the landscape of movies would be very different if Star Wars had been released today, but I think people would not look up to it as highly as the LoTR movies, nor would it be as big a sensation as Harry Potter. Its New Age hippie mythos and ethos might also get some flack.
