My fridge doesn't have a water dispenser like that, but I have a brita pitcher in my fridge and I keep on changing that filter out as needed.

I'm a plumber and I strongly recommend changing any in line filters or removing them and straight piping the line if you're not going to change them. Shit will get nasty and city water can be hard or soft but each will cause build up and do different things to filters
