I'll never play I/II/Ezio on Xbox

III/IV are on my Uplay... and I can tie them to GOG 2.0 now

It's fine. The modern story might lose you a bit, but it's really not fantastic to begin with. ACIII has my favorite setting in the series (Early America, with lots of snow) and it's got a good story that stays personal and doesn't delve too tremendously into useless nonsense.

They're all the same game with new gimmicks after 2, although I'd consider Brotherhood the most polished of the original format, and Black Flag -the- best.

That being said, 3 is fine. I was incredibly annoyed about mission structure, and how they made freerunning conflict with normal running, but I had good memories still.

You're missing out on the best protagonist and the best cities in the series by skipping the Ezio trilogy

2 would be the best starting point, unless you're just going to move right into Origins and Odyssey in their new pseudo RPG style

3 wraps up the original modern day storyline

You're gonna be bored as fuck like 2 hours into the first one.

I'd play 2 because it is fun but I'd play it on PC but honestly I'd skip to 4 because that is the best one

So, I would say you can play 4 by itself, but I would not recommend playing 3 by itself. For 1 / the Ezio games / 3, they actually *did* try to write a story in the modern day - you're going to be really lost there if you try to just jump into 3.

The first one is slow as shit. Everyone attacks me when I say it's boring, because "it's the only one where you're really an assassin!" but screw that. No fast travel, redundant evidence gathering tasks, etc... it's just a slog.

I got the original as a birthday gift right after it came out, and it killed any and all interest in the series for years. Just this past year I actually got into it and marathoned all the games - after the first one they all get so much better.

Ass Creed 3 was the first I played. It was also the only one because it was so bad it turned me off the franchise. I'd advice to start somewhere else.

AC3 isn't that great. If you can't go chronologically, try AC4 instead.

Alright
I'll either bust out the 360 disc of Ezio trilogy for my Xb1
Or start AC4 on PC

I enjoyed it :\ It introduced ships and naval combat at an elementary level, and I had a lot of fun exploring the folk myths of the frontiers.

Its probably the worst one barring some spinoff game that I havent played. I can see why it turned you off.

It's aggravatingly long, lots of filler.

Also really annoying to try to 100% the map if you're trying to side with one nation-state or the other in the war system.

Idk why they remastered III when it seems everyone has a strong disliking for it.

Agreed, they should have done II or even the first one if anything. (Maybe Black Flag?)

ACIII sold the most copies of any AC game (as of 2015), though, so thats probably why.

Assassins creed 3 was really meh.

I dont want to parkour out in the frontier or in cities/towns where the streets are wide and buildings are further away from each other and in a colonial/federal architecture style.

Give me those old cluttered chaotic compacted streets with winding stairs and alleys everywhere.

3 was pretty lame. Weak characters. Weak cities and environment. Wasted setting, with no big revolutionary war battles, just a dumb minigame where you direct troops to avoid gunfire. Plus the modern story had a terrible conclusion.

There's a reason Connor only got 1 game

The modern story would have been fine if they actually continued it and didn't wrap it up in some stupid comic book outside of the video game series.
