For years I have been interested in becoming a smoker and just recently decided to go and take the plunge! I figure I will start out small with just a few occasional cigarettes and work my way up to smoking a pack a day or more.

Any suggestions for a cigarette smoking noob who is just starting out in the hobby/lifestyle?

I've made it 35 years without smoking. I couldn't imagine starting at this point.

I dont think Ted Cruz is going to like this. This may be enough to persuade Ted Cruz not to rub your fat sons legs anymore.

For a new smoker I would suggest learning how to roll. The reason is its cheaper to buy a tin than indiviual packs and it will restrict your access to a cigarette to some degree. It also will engage you in your hobby and give you the satisfaction of a fresh ciggypoo you finely rolled yourself.

25-30 dollars per carton and that only lasts most people a week.

Imagine what you could buy with that money over a lifetime, which will end with you on an oxygen respirator because your lungs are shot.

Then work your way up to Marlboro menthol 100s, they're the best tasting ciggies and have cured my depression.

How much is a carton is cigarettes then? I don't smoke...I dip, but I wish I would have never started that ten years ago.

A roll of Grizzly is 15 bucks now, which consists of 5 cans.

Get a Juul instead. You won't smell like cigarettes afterwards and you can use it while you're on the toilet.

You can smoke cigarettes on the toilet too, plus you're sitting on your ashtray.

Rolling isn't a easy thing to do.

When I did mine they always looked like a rolled joint.

But yea it's cheaper.

Can get 200 smokes for like $50 in most places and prices.

There are so many people attacking TC without looking at both sides of the issue. There have been studies which have found that smoking is correlated with a lower rate of Parkinson's Disease.

This is true, rolling isn't easy when you first start. But he can use a roller and just practice when he wants. If he wants to be a true hobbyist and more than your pedestrian Marlboro Red chain-smoker I believe you should also be a craftsman in this regard.

Never could get the roller thing down.

It's was like smoking a piece of wood when I used it.

Anyway watch some of those cigarette rolling competition videos.

Seen some folks who roll them by hand like they came out of a pack.

As a smoker, this is a weird fucking topic. I can understand if some hot girl is all up in you business, but aside from that or drunk head rushes whats the point? Just by a Nord and get some flavoured vape juice if your fiending that hard for nicotine.

Instead of smoking cigs, you should get into testicle torture. It's a LOT cooler than tobacco nowadays with the youth, so if you want to be up to date with the new cultures it's the way to go.

Granted there are obvious negative health effects but I'm more than willing to put up with that for how great it feels to light a cigarette after a long shift

I smoke and I would strongly encourage you *not* to do it; it's very easy to underestimate just how addicted you are until you try to quit, and statistically only the minority of those who try to quit actually succeed, and even then it takes multiple, serious attempts to do so.

If you absolutely do insist on doing it, I would recommend rolling your own by hand. You can buy loose leaf tobacco, paper and filters at any tobacco shop - some sell higher quality stuff than others. Best case scenario? You try it a few times and get too frustrated to keep trying. Worst case scenario? You get more tobacco for your money than individual packs, the loose tobacco smells infinitely better than manufactured cigarettes, and I've found that when I roll my own I don't smoke as much because it's just not as convenient. It doesn't take too long to roll when you get good at it, but unless you're using a machine (don't buy one) you usually wind up making a cigarette that doesn't have as much tobacco as a manufactured one, so it burns more quickly. And I don't care enough to prepare cigarettes for my car rides so I wind up not smoking in the car as much.

PLUS you can get pipe tobacco - just take a couple pinches, mix it in with the regular bag/can of loose leaf cigarette tobacco and it will smell so much better.

My roommate's wife hated any bad odor, and had a really sensitive sense of smell, and hated smoking, and even she didn't mind that I smoked a pipe tobacco/rolling tobacco blend because it doesn't smell like trash cigarettes.
