Its awful. I was heading to the gym today and before I got into my car, I saw a parking meter lady staring at me. I just smiled at her and left. Thought nothing of it. I come back after exercising only to find out from my neighbor that she said a lot of racist things about myself. The leaves in my yard have finally started to fall yesterday but I havent raked them yet. She used that to say that I was just another filthy black guy who doesnt respect himself like the rest of my kind. She also called me several racial slurs.

Its not only that. There are plenty of young people Ive met who love saying the most popular derogatory term for black people, the version with the -er, casually around here like its nothing. Its baffling. Then, you have the constant barrage of jokes. Some of the most common one being Youre black. You dont even have a father or because of your dark skin, youre automatically inferior to me or the many variations of how were all either poor or stupid and we only eat fried chicken or watermelon.

Then, you have the people who come from small towns where the majority of the population is white who think of blacks as some sort of exotic species. I cannot tell you how many times Ive been asked idiotic questions about my race from these kind of people. Its as if they think were not human.

Its not even limited to young or uneducated people. I took a disease class at my university and my professor was this older woman in her 50s or 60s probably. She made a comment on how she spent her entire life thinking all black men had incredibly deep voices. A few years ago, she met a black guy who didnt have a deep voice and it turned her world upside down. How the fuck is that even possible?

In all the places I have lived, the racism is easily the worst here by a mile. It shouldnt bother me but it definitely does on some days.

I've been to Columbus multiple times and the people there could not be more friendlier.

I probably the saw the most diverse poor neighborhood I've ever seen near MAPFRE stadium, though.
