I've never played a Kojima game unless Silent Hill 3 was one. I liked it but Kojima likes to be up his own ass about how smart he is with references to advanced physics, paleontology, ancient mythology and military history plus the Manhattan Project. They aren't professionally explained at all but used as shallow plot movers.

His message seems to be that society (not just American) is faltering and we need to band together. Especially since players can communicate, sort of. That's nice but it's weirdly executed. He's criticizing Trump's wall and hikikomoris and not being our true selves to each other, hence the mask wearing. Nobody in the US talks and acts like they do. It's weird to see a Japanese guy give this kind of social critique. There's also sexism with Fragile's body and Mama's role.

The 4th wall references were fun. Like the yawn scene, or the characters talking to the player with their faces looking right at you. I figured Sam was probably a Bridge Baby but I wasn't sure Cliff was his dad. I like their names, Cliff and Bridge. The pun on Amalie's name was stupid, though.
