Do you think this Commercial is Sexist?

Peloton, a fitness company are "heartbroken" after they received furious backlash from the public over their new holiday ad that was pegged as SEXIST and they said it was misinterpreted of their intent...and now the company last nearly a BILLION in value in a DAY!!

The high end fitness brand lost 942 million in market value in the aftermath but claim they have received "positive" comments from the public too

They said they received positive and meaningful impact from customers who were gifted a Peloton Bike or Treadmill and said their spot was to celebrate that fitness and wellness journey as they were attempting to communicate a different way

The stock was down 6% in a day as the exercise equipment company was vilified over the commercial titled "The Gift That Gives Back" and shows a woman getting a STATIONARY BIKE from her HUSBAND for Christmas as she documents her year long FITNESS journey in a series of selfie clips and her saying "thank you" to her husband for the bike

Viewers savaged the add calling it sexist, misogynistic and humiliating and cringeworthy

The stock fell 9% before recovering a bit as it was the single biggest loss in the companies history

Analysts expect the company to stop airing the ad as the company expected to have a good holiday season but now it's reversed

The ad shows a SKINNY woman gasping in shock and says "A Peloton" when she spots the over 2000 execise bike on Christmas. She then documents herself using it and working out EVERYDAY for a YEAR in sweaty workouts as her husband watches and then she thanks her husband for giving the gift and ends with them watching the tv and ends with her saying "A year ago, i didn't realize how much this would change me. Thank you"

Social media says this encourages negative stereotypes an implies a husband will get a more attractive wife in return for giving her an exercise bike

One pereson said "The woman is rail thin already and her asshole husband thinks she's still not thin enough?. Nothing says maybe you should lose a few pounds like gifting your already rail thin partner a Peloton"

A parody video has already been released racking up thousands of views

The company declined to comment to Dailymail on this

I guess only fat people exercise???

I don't get why Peloton is getting flak for something every fitness commercial and ad has done.

I saw that ad and didn't think anything of it. With so many shiny, useless baubles in our lives, it seemed like Peloton was trying to say that they have a gift people will actually use and like. Who gives a fuck which spouse is getting it? Outrage culture, yada yada.

Although, to be more accurate to America, the people should have been fat, rode it once after putting it off for months, and then put it in the backyard to rust. That's an ad for you, love to see the backlash on that one.

I dislike the commercial, but not because of alleged sexism. I don't like the dumb woman recording videos of herself everywhere she goes.

So itd be better if she was fat or something?

What does her being "already" skinny have to do with this? Sounds like weenies who think fitness is strictly weight loss.

I wouldnt have put out the ad though, because people are stupid.

Skinny people can be unhealthy. Maybe a year on the bike really did change her life. The commercial is still pretty inane, but so are the vast majority of commercials.

Or even beyond unhealthy, skinny people can have goals. Im in good shape, but Ive never really been much of a bike rider. I have friends who ride all the time and its something Id like to give a shot.

Oh yeah, definitely. Last thing I really trained for was a 5K race and it was definitely a confidence booster in itself.
