Obviously it is underrated in the general public, but even gamers forget what they have given us or go out of their way to hate Nintendo for some reason.

Nintendo has provided quality, diverse, and consistent content for 30+ years. They are basically the Beatles of video games but have lasted over 3 times as long and increasing.

The amount of truly classic games has been steadily decreasing over the last ten to fifteen years. Still a legendary developer, but I can understand why to younger gamers especially they're merely another very good developer alongside others like Rockstar North or whoever.

i think nintendo is too reliant on nostalgia and gimmicks. they still have some good games but they're becoming increasingly more irrelevant each day imo

They're rated just fine. They contributed considerably to history, but the industry has grown a lot as well so they don't have anywhere near as much clout as they used to. You'll be fine if you don't play their games.

That being said I enjoy my Switch and play Fire Emblem Heroes every day.

If you said this back in like...2013 or so sure.

But now? Switch is the Market Leader, and several franchises have broken series/company or even industry wide records, and they have had many succesful new IP or games that broke out of their small niche.

Nintendo practically has a monopoly on Market Share in japan and is doing Strong in America, France, UK, South Korea etc.

Mobile is doing pretyy good too.

Fire emblem heroes is a beast. Mario Kart tour is big and Dragalia Lost/Animal crossing are doing solid.

Plus they are expanding into China, and theme parks.

You can appreciate what a thing has done while still criticizing them. That being said, they've been doing great with the Switch. This topic would've had more relevance when they were still on the Wii U.

their games have too many colours and not enough edge so they obviously only make games for children, and i, an intellectual and adult master gamer, have no time for their kiddy rubbish

yeah it's selling well but i still think those sales are heavily reliant on nostalgia & gimmicks. i dont think that anything nintendo is doing is going to affect the industry as a whole, they just made a product that resonates with their fanbase that remembers the SNES & N64 fondly

What part of the Switch is sold by gimmicks? People are buying it because it's a handheld with glorified HDMI port. They wouldn't have touched handhelds otherwise.

Nintendo will continue to innovate to push the medium forward in their own ways while Sony and Microsoft focus on bringing a more PC-like experience to the home console ecosystem. I feel like there will always be a place in every home for a Nintendo console, while Sony/MS/PC have to really compete with each other. Nintendo is doing everything right in their own way imo

Nintendo have made some classic games and I love my Switch but the vast majority of Nintendo consoles have a handful of great games and not much else.
