Well, it would really depend on the diet you are pursuing with the strength training - Olympic weightlifters do not have bodybuilder physiques but they are objectively the strongest people.

How much cardio are you doing?
Lifting weights will not only help you lose weight, but will tone the parts of you body, therefore making you look thinner. You should be doing Cardio anyway and you should be eating healthy anyway as well, but I still think that lifting weights is probably the most effective, unless you are doing a heavy amount of cardio. --- Kill anyone who gets in the way...
