This has worked before!

All I know is it's a 2D game, likely a platformer. Could be something akin to Terraria/Starbound if they had larger tiles. And it's not Minecraft.

The tile I remember is simply an orange dirt block with some grass on it. This rules out the NES and I don't think it's on the SNES. There's a chance it's on the GBA, so I'm checking Metroid Fusion right now.

In addition to being an orange-ish dirt block, it's lumpy... definitely lumpy, that's why I'm remembering it.

It doesn't seem to be the dirt from Spelunky, but it's pretty close... so if we don't find it then I'll just think that maybe my mind was playing tricks on me or it was from an older version or something like that.

Steamworld Dig?

Ooo, I haven't played that in a while. I'll have to give it a double-check.

Based on screenshots I'd have to say no, the tile fidelity is too high... so it might be something with a lower resolution aesthetic.

I found a new closest match...

But it still isn't exactly what I remember... it needs to be a tinge more orange

Maplestory

Maplestory doesn't use tiles (that I remember), it uses all setpieces.

edit: Ok, all the original areas are definitely tiles... they must have transitioned to sets with later expansions.
