What do you think?

Badge of honor tbh. Most of the people bitching about video games just sit on the couch watching TV instead. I read books and stay employed, not completely glued to my screens. Gamers rise up!

You can Vyrulisse, when Metal Gear Solid 5 came out, I played that for 17 hours straight.
By the end of the first week I had about 104 hours in it

Time well taken off work and well spent.

Video games have more or less replaced tv in my life, so spending 100 hours on one game is sort of like binge-watching a show with lots of seasons. I don't think it's inherently good or bad, just something people use for entertainment.

I tend to favor long games. Not concerned about dollars-to-hours.

17 hours non stop dude
I started at about 1am, slept around 10pm that night then started again at 4am
I got less and less sleep each time

The best part? I skipped all the fucking cutscenes. Just pure gameplay

Didn't say anything about dollars. Well, the first poll response does, but I didn't mean $/hour. Just meant in general

I played DS2 for 50 hours straight with no sleep >_>. Then I slept for 5 hours and played it for 30-40 more hours. Lol drugs.

I've done 17+ hours with a small sleep intermission on Death Stranding already too. Still drugs, but downers. I pretty much only binge games tho. Im flakey as hell so I never know when Ill be able to get into it again once my mind wonders off.

There is a guy on my Xbox Live friends list who has played Fallout 4 (released November 10th, 2015) for 7,741 hours. This is him on the right, me on the left:

https://imgur.com/a/iPmmAun

That is 322 days worth of playing Fallout 4, nearly an entire year out of his life dedicated to playing this game. Would you consider this a badge of honor or a symptom of extreme mental illness?

Anymore if I can't get at least like 50 hours out of a new game I feel like it was a waste of money

My main thing is I need to feel like I'm making progress through it. Which is sometimes a pacing thing, sometimes a basic "collect these four things" structure, sometimes as simple as a % complete counter on the main menu somewhere.

If I start feeling like it's never going to end, that really irritates me.

Strongly depends on the game.
200 hours into Persona 5...too much, game overstayed its welcome.
200 hours into Monster Hunter World...fantastic, just getting started.

If someone told me a first playthrough of a game was 100+ hours I would be very hesitant to play that game, mostly because I don't believe most games with that much playtime really have near enough actual content to deserve it

I don't see anything wrong with just the general idea of playing a game for 100+ hours though

When they're longer, it really comes down to if they have an entertaining gameplay loop. You know it's gonna be more repetitive than your average 7-15 hour game, but if that repetition is fun and keeps giving you motivation through unlocks then it's all good. People can talk shit about Death Stranding being repetitive and silly gameplay wise, but the way they ration out unlocks in that game is top tier. You're literally always getting an interesting new tool to make things easier on you, anytime you do anything of significance. Also, being able to simultaneously do main and side missions in one run is very cool. Weighing if completing more stuff in one run is worth the extra challenge is entertaining. Then you find out what you're comfortable with and it becomes 2nd nature

Filler is completely subjective tho. Like in Fallout, traveling to each place is part of the journey. It wouldn't be Fallout if you were just teleported from important location to important location. Same with a lot of games. Id only call it filler if there was no reason for it. Even when it's like "Go get this battery from here and bring it back", if that battery actually makes impact when you bring it back, is that still filler? Or was the point of the game to go explore dangerous locations to activate advances in communities to begin with?

Id argue filler is more so "Go get the battery here...syke, it wasn't here, it's over there" while nothing around you advances. But not all long games do that shit. If you pick games carefully, you can get the best of both worlds.

I think that's true but it only works up to a certain amount. Like, you mention death stranding but that's not a 100 hour game. That's a 40-50 hour game. 100 hours is a lot more than you'd think and I feel like it's rarely reached without significant padding

Why? Like what is there to do in that game? My last racing game was some motorcycle one from the PS1. I'm just wondering what are modern racing games like
