I like the entire original trilogy. I liked the Clone Wars cartoon series and the cgi series seemed pretty good from what I've seen.

The funniest thing is that while Empire is now considered the standard for a sequel of any series, its initial reaction when it released was similar to TLJ.

ESB is the only legitimately good Star Wars movie. The rest are still very entertaining, but range from mediocre to ok in quality.

I think most star wars fans look at the original three films as the holy trilogy. Everything else is debatably hit or miss.

This is true in some ways yeah. The universe is great and the things that have been introduced so far give any potential books/movies/shows/games massive potential to be amazing. It's been a long time since a complete movie was made though.

Its the only one that's pretty much universally liked, mostly because its the best movie, but also crucially, that whole twist ending reveal pretty much defined what the series would be about. It went from being a mind bogglingly successful, but self contained swashbuckling adventure movie with space Nazis, sasquatch Cousin It with a gun, and butt lipped aliens in a bar, to being a massive saga that gave the word 'Galaxy' a level of culturally binding, mythical gravitas normally associated with the likes of Middle Earth, Oz and Narnia, and its all pretty much down to those five (misremembered as six) little words.

Really, Star Wars is pretty much the first two movies, and a bunch of other stuff that can never, as far as carving an identity goes, live up to it.

Only two movies are really really bad. A couple are not that great, a lot are ok and decent, and there's a couple that are fantastic. It's a series that has really touched the entire film spectrum of quality.

You don't understand. The franchise isn't a thing to be enjoyed. It's a thing to be studied, to be analyzed, to be researched, and then to be discussed and debated. The thing to be truly enjoyed is your own personal expertise, and the social status and dominance you establish thereby; the movies are just source material.

And that doesn't mean that can't be fun, or even that they shouldn't be. But when they upset the geek hierarchy by disrupting established theory and expertise, well, that's just problematic, now, isn't it? This just won't do. That ruins all the True Fans' fun.

That's where the True Fan bullshit comes in, because you've got a whole lot of internet heads telling you what Star Wars isn't at the same time that they ignore the majority of Star Wars.

If this is about what Disney did to "everything outside the movies and The Clone Wars", it can be hard to remember that there was only one thing lost in the massacre that had ever been christened canon (The Force Unleashed). The EU was never canon to begin with, which is a shame because I liked Dawn of the Jedi, but it is what it is.
