in the order they were released or chronological order? Actually I watched one or two of the movies but it was in school and I slept through 80% of the movies like 20-23 years ago but I forgot everything about the 20% of the movie I saw.

Release order is best. The prequels kind of assume you know the story already when it comes to character introductions and development.

It's possible to watch in chronological order without missing much, apart from easter eggs or cameos, but release order is best.

How do the old movies hold up? Are they still good by today's standards?

yes. the first 3 movies are classics and still good today

Watch A New Hope (1977) Empire Strikes Back (1980) Return of the Jedi (1983) and Revenge of the Sith (2005)

Everything else is trash. The Disney movies are all trash too.

Episodes 4-6. Then if you like it continue on to 7 on. Prequels can be skipped, they dont really add anything unless you really like star wars. And they are bad movies

I've been hearing good things about the Machete Order: 4, 5, 2, 3, 6. Skip 1 entirely, and treat 2 and 3 as though they were a long flashback coming after 5; you'll understand what this means when the time comes.

After this, watch the Disney movies. They're great in their own right, but they aren't part of the story being told in the Machete Order (except arguably Rogue One).

The Disney movies are basically just the OT reset button but with shitty characters and bad writing. They can be skipped and literally add nothing to the story.

I found that the original Star Wars does not hold up nearly as well as the Empire Strikes Back. The empire strikes back is easily the best movie in the series.

Watch ANH, ESB and ROTJ. Then TPM, ATOC and ROTS.

Solo was fun too, watch that.

Avoid the Disney movies. They're probably the worst stories in the entire series
