The Mexican military has been fighting the cartels for over a decade now. They are losing. Many of the cartels members are former Mexican special forces. Nearly all the rest are guys that join the Mexican military to get the training and then leave to join the cartels. The cartels have no rules. They will kill anyone at any time for any reason, just because they can. Not to mention unlike the apathy or just outright support in Afghanistan, the people of Mexico hate the cartels. If our military came in and is actually making progress the people of Mexico would rise up against the cartels to get rid of them once and for all.
