It's going to be strange in a few decades when we have politicians who are savvy to the reality that the internet means everything they've ever said is recorded and ready for playback. Guy's a total mess. I went through about three iterations of different ways to defend this and there just isn't. Even in the best case scenario, where he admitted to saying it was a matter of debate that needed further research (and then claiming he did the research and determined it is not a gateway drug), he would still sound impulsive and uninformed about issues that garner widespread national attention presently.

I don't know why weed apologists always go right to alcohol. Sure, people might get bored of alcohol and move on to harder shit too. Although I think the more logical path with alcohol is just to drink harder alcohol.

Although legal, it's a highly addictive substance with tolerance problems that a lot of people let dictate parts of their day. Alcohol can be more destructive, but caffeine is way more addictive.

EDIT: I'm not calling Caffeine a gateway, BTW. I was saying that if Hydra was going to go down this path it's a better choice than Alcohol.

Yeah, but that's not what "gateway" means. Caffeine consumption has a negligible impact on how likely someone is to be an alcohol drinker, but e.g. someone who doesn't drink alcohol is much less likely to smoke pot than someone who does drink alcohol.
