I'm off work til Friday. Checked my emails just now. She's scheduled a presentation in my calendar with a client for Friday at 9am on a particular bit of software that 1) only I can present and prepare and 2) takes around 3 hours to prepare for each presentation.

Sadly this isn't the first time she's tried this so I'm just gonna pretend I haven't seen the email and drop the bomb on her Friday morning.

I've given her several chances in the past, so I absolutely intend to have the shit hit the fan this time. Sometimes you've just gotta let it happen before people get the point.

Also I absolutely do not want to set the expectation that I check emails while on leave. Her shitty planning is not my emergency.

Checking a work email is considered work duties, so if you're off the clock, you shouldn't be expected to do so

So would you schedule a meeting on a sunday night for the entire team at 9am on a monday morning and then be upset that the team did not know and prepare for the meeting?

No. The only way to prepare for this client presentation would be to take 3 hours of my scheduled leave time to work, settinga precedent that leave time is just working from home time. I simply am not going to do that.

How about you man up and not take shit from your job? Once again, her piss poor planning is not my emergency.

Yep. And leave scheduled in diary, and all important people notified, handover notes given, etc. etc.

This is 100% because the GM has a memory like a goldfish. I'm not going to work out of hours to make up for that, I'm amazed that anyone would think that's the correct response.

Believe me, this is not my first reaction. You give someone the benefit of the doubt the first time, and then the second time you give them another chance. The third time you might have a sense of grace to just roll with it.

But if it continues to happen then you need to let karma bite them in the ass. She is just a general manager, not mein fuhrer. If she can't manage a simple schedule then that's her not doing her job correctly, nothing to do with me.
