Scientists have been unable to thoroughly study the distribution and abundance of the Cross River gorilla until the last decade or so. Because the gorillas are wary of humans and inhabit rugged territory, scientists have been unable to count many of these gorillas directly. Instead, researchers have used indirect signs, such as nest counts, and estimated range sizes to determine that there are only about 200 to 300 of these gorillas left in the wild.

Why are you responding to people who aren't engaging with you on a serious level?

Common Name - Western Lowland Gorilla, Scientific Name - Gorilla gorilla gorilla

I have never understood scientific name nomenclature and how it is generated, but this one had me amused.

If I told you to count the number of beans in a jar, and you go "Well, that's too much work, if an average bean takes up .5 x .5 x .5, and the jar is 30 x 30 x 30, then my math concludes that there is ______ beans in the jar".

If you're going to be all .999 =/= 1, then you should be consistent in accuracy.

Oh yes let us label the WWF an amateur scientific organization.

This probably means the western lowland gorilla is the nominate subspecies.
