I'm very surprised at how good this stupid crossover is.

Even the DLC goes above and beyond what I expected by making the characters unique. Really hope they make a sequel.

Yeah it's a lot like the newer Xcom games

Yeah it's really fun so far. Walking around in the overworld gets old pretty fast though.

Yes it's a turn based tactics game, so like XCOM, or combat from Divinity Original SIn 2 (but slightly simpler). You have to get into good strategic position, use the best weapon, pick off the enemy one by one, etc.

I wasn't sold on it when it first came out and just assumed it was a shitty "quick, let's get a mario game out while the switch is fresh!" kinda game, but the production is really great.

I said this in someone else's topic but that game has absolutely no business being as good at is it.

And the difficulty spike post-game where you get bonus levels are practically impossible unless you are near perfect the whole way through.

Exactly how I feel about it! It's way too good for a game like this. The world is genuinely beautiful, the cutscenes are hilarious and well made, and the game is superbly balanced and actually difficult.

Forgot to mention but yeah, the game is pretty fucking hilarious. Rabbid Peach and Tom Phan being the absolute best.

The BIGGEST gripe I have with the game though is how late you get Yoshi and Rabbid Yoshi. An extra level to get some experience with them before the end would have been nice.

It's okay, but the overworld is dumb and acts pretty much entirely as filler, including lame backtracking ("I haven't learned to do this yet"). Just completely unnecessary. I'd rather just play XCOM.

At a point, those become puzzles instead of tactics.

I actually liked the puzzle aspects of the overworld. Was a nice break between battles.

Yeah. Based on the title I was very leery but it's Mario meets Xcom much like Super Mario RPG "Mario'd" the RPG genre.

Luigi+Rabbid Luigi is probably my favorite composition for general play. Peach is necessary for some levels, and Rabbid Mario is niche but when he's good, he's GOOD. Yoshi feels like an afterthought.

Yeah no joke. But soo satisfying when you beat them.
