My thing was always just trying give the comfort of how it was when everything was okay for them. Just trying to joke around and get them in a more playful mood. My best friend lost his mom earlier this year, so Im dealing with a similar situation. They gotta figure out the hard part themselves. You can just provide a minor escape for them to gather their thoughts once in awhile. Im not scared to talk about it, but Im not gonna be the one to bring it up.

I didnt know if i should bring it up or just act like everything is happy.

Is he a drinker? That can make it impossible for outside influence to get through. And even when it does, they forget about it when they wake up and start all over.

Not much of a drinker. Maybe a beer or two.

if you care just pull them aside to ask how they doing. what can you do to be supportive in this. let person know youre there for them if anything.

had that happen in our family. we werent sure what to do really but one by one each family representative talked to the family sides and bridged all families together. still see each other every family event. still see relatives ask how they doing. its not a one time thing its continuously being followed up because of family.

That's good. My boy turned to drinking immediately because that's how his family always dealt with shit. Luckily he got in trouble with the law and immediately had to straighten up. I had no idea how to handle that. The one time he came over drunk and I felt I calmed him down, but Id of got exhausted having to deal with that energy every week. Not even that he was a bad alcoholic. He still made effort to consider my perspective no matter how drunk he was. But I just can't deal with drinkers regularly.

That's good advice. When people lost a main support, they start questioning how weak the rest of their supports are. That reinsurance could go a long way

That puts it into perspective.

I guess I'll just simply ask if he's okay. He'll provavly say he's doing alright. I'll say if you need anything, just hmu.
