I can agree to disagree, and I've been trying to be nice up to this point, but let's be real here. You started off by calling my opinion "pretty fucked up", called me intellectually dishonest, accused me of strawmanning and distortion, all while ignoring 3/4 of what I had said. And even as I quoted back the exact sections from the article that had holes in their reasoning, you persisted in not responding to any of my criticisms, instead returning to petty insults and insisting that the precise points I was quoting from the article itself were somehow not the points he was making.

I suppose it is good to know that Coates has such virulent fanboys, though, so next time I can feel free to even more harshly criticize the weak parts of his writing without having to worry that there's nobody around to defend his fragile honor.

Correct, as he quite often tends to be. People with power have been cancelling those who challenge them, who make them uncomfortable, who's attitudes they don't like, who have gotten uppity. They've been doing it unchecked for centuries. They're still doing it now. Few have a problem with it. Walmart threatens to cancel and blacklist people and whole towns for daring to unionize and it goes by without a peep. But the idea that some rando on Twitter could point out your shitty views and make people like you less is the death of liberty and free thought in our society.

I agreed with about 80% of this article, the Kaepernick parts, but I was extremely disappointed by comparison in his assessment of cancel culture and thought there could be a good discussion there. Apparently that's enough for you and 3 other dudes to leap to the attack. I'm honestly not sure what I did to offend you all so much, especially when other users have called Coates a joke leftist or called both him and Kaepernick racists and not received that same ire.

But that's okay. I enjoyed the discussion I had with you in spite of the insults since you did actually talk to me and make me think about this article more than I would have otherwise.

I try to be selective on who I give my time to. It's largely based on whether or not I believe they might be genuine, regardless of their beliefs.

Agreed dude, no hard feelings at all. I wouldn't come to CE if I wasn't ready for some banter.

I think we definitely look at this issue differently, but I appreciate you taking the time to discuss it and I do feel like I understand your perspective a lot better than when we started.
