"someone would come back and tell us"

I never understood this. it would break history if someone did that. obviously people would avoid that. and if someone actually DID do it, "time cops" would reverse the event to fix things. so even if it ever has happened, we don't remember cause it got reversed

So time travel doesn't actually exist then in any meaningful use of the term

I am saying if it exists, it's a secret. people can go back in time without letting people know where they came from

Maybe going back makes a new timeline, so we'd never know anyway.

Well why did WE get stuck in the bullshit timeline where we haven't discovered it yet?

We just get hints of clues, like dj vu when our perception of lived experience in one timeline bleeds through into another.

Maybe deja vu is actually a timeline split. Maybe our great grandchildren will know how it all works!

one reason I want time travel is to recover lost media. all those old movies and tv episodes like Doctor Who for example, that got lost. and a large chunk of early hollywood films are lost

Video games too apparently. I've heard source codes have been lost for many old games. The best case for ROMS to exist imo

They wouldn't necessarily have a choice.

In fact, I would argue the only solution that makes sense prevents any sort of reaction to time travel antics.

How about this then.

If time travel ever exists within my lifetime my future self will come visit me as soon as I finish posting this

Pfft, assuming we are so special we are in the OG timeline.

If there was timetravel there'd be like so many new timelines because of changes, so the odds of us being the in the first one approach 0

Nah, creating new universes is a major violation of conservation of energy.

Not necessarily. We could assume a 5th dimension in which our reality has 100% width and then the new reality after it's created will have 50% of the width. Basically there's many ways to reconcile the multiverse with physical laws, another easy way is to just say "those laws only apply within universe"
